Add vetted developers to your team in days, not months
We place senior and mid-level JavaScript developers — React, Node.js, Vue.js, Next.js, TypeScript, full-stack — directly into your team. You manage the work. We handle recruiting, vetting, contracts and HR. EU-based, 19 years in business, 500+ completed projects.
What staff augmentation actually means — and when it is the right choice
Staff augmentation is not outsourcing a project. It is adding people. A developer joins your team, works in your Jira, commits to your GitHub, attends your standups and reports to your CTO or PM. The difference from a full hire is that you do not own the contract, the HR overhead or the recruiting cost — Valant handles all of that.
It works well when you have a clear product direction and internal management capacity, but not enough developer throughput. It does not work well when you need someone to own a product end-to-end without direction. If that is your situation, a dedicated team model where we also provide PM and QA makes more sense.
JavaScript stack roles available for augmentation
Every developer on the list below has gone through a technical screening. Rates and availability on the pricing page.
React Developer Augmentation
Senior and mid-level React developers for SaaS products, dashboards, B2B platforms and complex UIs. Experience with React 18+, hooks, Redux Toolkit, React Query, Tanstack Router, Vite and modern testing setups (Vitest, Testing Library, Playwright).
Node.js Developer Augmentation
Backend developers with Node.js, Express.js, Fastify and NestJS experience. REST API and GraphQL design, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, queue systems (BullMQ, RabbitMQ), microservice architecture and cloud deployments (AWS, GCP, Railway).
Vue.js Developer Augmentation
Vue 3 developers with Composition API, Pinia, Nuxt 3 and Vite. Useful when a product is already built on Vue and needs to grow without migrating the frontend stack. Also available for greenfield Vue 3 builds where it is the better architectural fit.
Next.js Developer Augmentation
Next.js 14/15 developers with App Router, server components, ISR and streaming. For products where SEO, performance and SSR matter: SaaS marketing sites, e-commerce frontends, content-heavy platforms, landing page systems and hybrid React/Next builds.
Full-Stack JavaScript / TypeScript Augmentation
Full-stack JS/TS developers who can own frontend and backend simultaneously — useful when a team needs to move fast without strict frontend/backend split. React or Next.js on the front, Node.js or NestJS on the back, TypeScript throughout, Prisma or Drizzle as ORM.
AI Integration Developer Augmentation
Developers who can add LLM features to an existing JavaScript or Node.js product — not build LLMs, but integrate them properly. OpenAI API, Anthropic, LangChain.js, vector stores (Pinecone, pgvector), RAG pipelines, structured output and AI feature design for product teams.

- Based in Spain — EU data protection, GDPR-ready
- 6h overlap with US East, 9h with US West
- Strong English, experience working with US product teams
- Available from $35/hour — competitive against US hiring costs
European businesses
Same timezone, same employment regulations, similar work culture. EU-based clients get a development partner who understands GDPR, VAT, procurement processes and professional communication norms.

- Invoice in EUR, GDPR-compliant data handling
- Clients in Germany, Netherlands, UK, Nordics, Spain
- Contracts available in English or with local legal review
SaaS and fintech companies
Developers with context in multi-tenant architecture, subscription billing, API-first design, auth systems and performance at scale. Not every agency dev has built a SaaS product — ours have.
- Experience with Stripe, Paddle, Chargebee billing integrations
- Multi-tenant database design (row-level security, schema isolation)
- Auth: Clerk, Auth.js, custom JWT systems
- SaaS-specific React patterns: feature flags, role permissions, onboarding flows
Staff augmentation vs other hiring models
Knowing when augmentation is the right choice and when it is not. Full breakdown on Staff Augmentation vs Full Outsourcing.
| Factor | Staff augmentation | Full-time local hire | Project outsourcing | Dedicated team |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Time to start | 3–7 days | 4–12 weeks | 1–3 weeks | 1–2 weeks |
| Who manages the developer | You | You | The agency | Valant PM + you |
| Flexibility to scale | High — add or remove monthly | Low — employment contract | Scope-bound | Medium |
| Works well when | You have PM capacity + clear product direction | Long-term permanent need | Defined deliverable, no in-house PM needed | You need a full team, not one person |
| Cost vs local hire (EU) | 30–60% lower | Baseline | Variable | Similar to augmentation per dev |
| IP ownership | 100% yours from day 1 | 100% yours | Depends on contract | 100% yours — assignment clause standard |

Why companies choose Valant as a long-term staff augmentation partner
The things that make the difference on a second and third engagement, not just the first.
19 years without rebranding or pivoting away from development
Founded in 2006 under the same name. $2M+ earned on Upwork with 500+ verified completed projects. The track record is long enough to verify independently — Upwork profile, Clutch reviews.
Developers talk to you directly — no account manager layer
Questions about technical decisions get answered by the person writing the code. Direction changes take one conversation. No translation layer that slows down decision-making or distorts requirements.
Honest about what will not work
If a feature will create technical debt, hurt performance or cost three times what it returns, we say so. You still decide. But you decide with the real picture, not a version designed to keep the project running smoothly for us.
EU-based — GDPR, contractual clarity, no jurisdiction risk
Based in El Campello, Valencia, Spain. EU data protection law applies. Contracts in English, invoices in EUR or USD. For European clients especially, this removes the friction of working across legal systems.
High repeat client rate across 19 years
The majority of Upwork work comes from clients returning for a second or third project. Clients who come back are clients who were not disappointed the first time. Read what they say on the reviews page.
NDA, IP assignment and code transfer standard — no negotiation needed
Non-disclosure available before the first call. IP assignment clause is standard in every contract. On project completion, you get the code, credentials and documentation. No leverage held. No lock-in.
How much does staff augmentation cost?
Rates depend on seniority and specialization. Mid-level JavaScript / React / Node.js developers start from $35–45/hour. Senior developers with 6+ years of production experience run $50–65/hour. Tech leads and architects are priced individually based on scope.
Monthly retainers are available for ongoing engagements — typically more cost-effective than hourly for full-time capacity. Full rate cards, engagement model options (hourly, monthly retainer, milestone-based) and what affects pricing are all on the pricing page.
For context: a senior React developer in the US costs $120–180k/year in salary alone, before recruiting fees, benefits and management overhead. EU nearshore augmentation at $50–65/hour full-time runs roughly $8–11k/month all-in.
Questions before hiring an augmentation partner
What is staff augmentation and how is it different from outsourcing?
With staff augmentation, you hire individual developers who join your existing team and work under your management. You own the project direction. With project outsourcing, the agency takes ownership of delivery. Both are valid — augmentation fits when you have management capacity; outsourcing fits when you do not. See the full comparison article.
How fast can you add a developer to my team?
In most cases, you can have a pre-vetted developer working in your team within 3 to 7 business days from the first conversation. For specialist roles (AI integrations, very niche stacks), allow 1 to 2 weeks. We maintain an active pool of screened developers — we do not start recruiting from scratch on each request.
Do I need to commit to a minimum engagement period?
No minimum lock-in is required, though most engagements run for 3+ months because shorter sprints rarely deliver meaningful outcomes. You can scale the developer’s time up or down month to month. Full engagement model options are on the pricing page.
Will the developer work in my tools — Jira, Slack, GitHub, etc?
Yes. The developer joins your existing workflow. Slack, Teams, Telegram, Jira, Linear, Notion, GitHub, GitLab — wherever you already work. We do not impose a separate project management layer on top of yours.
What if the developer does not work out?
We replace them. If a developer is not meeting expectations after the first sprint or two, we have a replacement process. We ask for specific feedback, source an alternative from our pool, and handle the transition. No long dispute process.
Do you work with US companies? What about the timezone?
Yes, a significant portion of our work is with US clients. Valant is EU-based (Spain) — 6-hour overlap with US East Coast, 9-hour overlap with US West Coast. Async-first communication handles the majority of collaboration. For daily standups, we agree a working window that does not require anyone to be on calls late at night. More on working with US companies here.
Is there an NDA available?
Yes, before the first call if you prefer. NDA is standard, not a negotiation point. IP assignment is included in every contract — all work product belongs to you from day one.
Can you take over a project another team started?
Yes, this is common. We start with a code audit — usually 2 to 4 days. We document what exists, flag real risks honestly and give you options. Some codebases are solid. Some need partial rewrite. We tell you which before committing to anything. Full process at How We Work.
